Second Nature is an award-winning landscaping company based in Auckland. We understand the importance of turning your dream garden into a reality, and that's why we're dedicated to creating beautiful outdoor living spaces.
By working closely with you, our goal is to produce great design and help maximise both the beauty of, and add value to, your lifestyle and property.
Our team of experienced professionals offers a comprehensive range of services for the complete life cycle of your garden - from design through project management, construction and planting, to garden maintenance, all managed with a collaborative approach to ensure each project is enjoyable for all the participants.
Our Design team includes landscape designers, landscape architects and planting specialists.
They are all respected for their creativity, are highly skilled and down-to-earth. Their ability to connect and collaborate with clients as well as our Create and Grow divisions, builders, architects and other industry professionals, makes for award winning results. In addition, the team is skilled in obtaining Resource and Building Consents, and in designing pools.
The Design team can also provide support to independent designers who have already been engaged by the client and who have chosen Second Nature to build their project.

Jonty Judge
CEO
Jonty has a history of working within the services sector having built a successful management career in the Supply Chain and Logistics industry since leaving Otago University in 2013.
A stint in London operating in the fast-paced world of technology start-ups has given him experience building business structures and processes from the ground up.
Eugene Andersen
Construction Manager
Eugene has worked continuously in the landscape industry since leaving school. He is passionate about the great outdoors and has travelled extensively, including a period of working in the industry in London.
He has worked with Second Nature since 1998, during which time he has progressed from constructing individual gardens to managing multiple projects. He loves a challenge and always strives to deliver a quality product.
Gavin McGuinness
Estimating & Contracts Manager
Gavin speicliases in transforming landscapes ranging from small backyard gardens to significant large-scale properties into places of beauty and reflection.
Although he has now put down his tools to move into an office-based role, he has lost none of the enjoyment of contributing to the creation of beautiful landscapes and working with a fantastic team of talented and passionate individuals at Second Nature.
Gareth Edge
Horticulture Manager
Gareth brings a extraordinary depth of knowledge and experience to his role at Second Nature. It reflects many years of hands-on work in the horticultural and arboreal area and an extensive plant knowledge.
He has been an integral part of the Second Nature Grow team since 2012.
Chris is skilled and knowledgeable in construction design and ecology planting for large sites, in particular coastal and lifestyle gardens. He is recognised by his team, peers and clients as a landscape industry expert, with an undeniable passion for his craft and the environment.
His talent for creating meaningful landscapes and expansive, naturalised, plant-scapes often sees him hands on in picturesque locations such as Great Barrier Island and Tutukaka. Although he is equally content in his own bio-diverse garden.
Chris Ballantyne
Founder & Director
Janet has been involved with construction project management all her working life in both the UK and New Zealand. Her BA Hons degree from Nottingham University, UK, was complemented by a post-graduate Business Diploma and Strategic Planning studies at the University of Auckland.
Janet has brought an increased professionalism to Second Nature, introducing best-practice systems to financial and project management. She has also developed the strategic vision and stimulated growth of the business.
